Major cracks that are 1/4” or larger can typically be repaired with what is commonly called “Hot Tar”. This direct-fire, polymeric rubber is applied as a boiling liquid to deeply penetrate the crack and seal the surface. This will prevent water from entering the base and subbase, slow pavement deterioration, and can extend the life of the pavement by three to five years. Hot Tar provides stronger adhesion & resiliency than“cold tar” because it can withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures. It is also resistant to pick-up, scuffing, and tracking caused by power steering. To further improve the bond strength, cracks are cleaned of all debris with a wire brush or router, and are blown clean with compressed air.
